Ewa Czarniecka
My work focuses on everyday places, moments and journeys.
I try to recreate the feeling of light and space within each scene, in order to transport the viewer into the painting, as if standing there looking in. Everything is caught momentarily in transience, waiting for someone to come along and continue the journey.
My paintings explore the the way that light falls in a city, how it casts shadows and reflections, how it pierces the darkness.
I enjoy painting streets, markets, cafés seeing how people behave, painting them in stillness or in frantic motion.
I'm fascinated when the skies gather over- they've got a torment,a threat about them, which I want to put down. I the sky is nice and blue it doesn't do too much for me. I don't want it to be too pretty;I want it to have some guts. I want it to be whirling around. There’s a poetic sort of moment, which I can't convey in the sunshine. Working with oil I build the paintings up in layers to create a luminosity or light that glows from within the painting. Discovery, curiosity, playfulness.
PLEASE DONT HESITATE TO CONTACT ME IF YOU HAVE ANY QUERIES OR NEED A COMMISION COMPLETED.
